GENERAL INTRODUCTION

The Hotel Management Department, under the Faculty of Tourism and Culinary Arts, is responsible for training, research, and knowledge transfer in the field of hotel and lodging management, meeting the development needs of the tourism–service industry in the context of international integration.

The Department manages and teaches subjects within the Hotel Management major. The undergraduate Hotel Management program at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade has been recognized as meeting the Ministry of Education and Training’s educational quality standards (MOET), according to Decision No. 50/NQ-HĐKĐCLGD dated April 5, 2025.

  • Regarding training objectives, the Department aims to develop human resources with strong professional knowledge, proficient professional skills, modern managerial thinking, and a professional work ethic. Graduates are equipped to meet the needs of 3–5 star lodging establishments, domestic and international hotel groups, and are capable of adapting to the rapid changes of the service industry.

  • Regarding curriculum content, the Department is responsible for delivering core and specialized courses related to hotel management such as Front Office Management, Housekeeping Management, Lobby Management, Service Quality Management, Human Resource Management in Tourism, Lodging Management, Resort Management, Revenue Management in Tourism, Tourism Marketing, along with practical and integrated courses connected to industry practice. The curriculum is developed using a competency-based approach, updated with modern management trends, professional standards, and labor market requirements.

  • Regarding academic staff, the Hotel Management Department currently consists of 05 PhDs, 01 PhD candidate, and 02 Masters, trained domestically and internationally, with teaching experience, scientific research achievements, and practical management experience in tourism–hospitality businesses. The faculty continuously innovates teaching methods, strengthens research, and enhances industry partnerships to improve training quality.

  • Regarding development orientation, the Department focuses on building outcome-based programs, enhancing practice-based learning and real-world experience, promoting applied scientific research, strengthening business cooperation, and internationalizing training activities. In the coming years, the Department aims to become a reputable training unit providing high-quality human resources, contributing to the sustainable development of the tourism–hospitality industry.

It aims to be a trusted institution for providing managerial and operational human resources for Vietnam’s tourism–service industry in the context of integration and sustainable development.

In order to meet practical demands for high-quality human resource training and to foster professional qualities and vocational skills, the Department actively delivers courses aimed at skill development and fulfilling functional activities in the hotel industry, such as: sales and customer service skills; communication and service etiquette skills; industry-specific foreign languages; management skill development; hotel service quality management; hotel human resource management, and others.

The Hotel Management Department regularly organizes practical field-learning activities at hotels, resorts, convention and banquet centers, etc., providing students with opportunities to understand real working environments and recognize the professional requirements, qualities, and competencies of each position in the industry. Implementing a specialized training mechanism for tourism–hospitality human resources, the Department actively strengthens industry partnerships by engaging experts from 4- and 5-star hotels to collaborate in delivering hands-on training activities at enterprises.

Students studying in the Hotel Management Department, in addition to acquiring professional knowledge, actively participate in extracurricular and student movement activities organized by the Faculty and the University. These activities help equip students with essential soft skills and confidence for their career pathways—from staff and supervisory positions to managerial roles in hotels, restaurants, resorts, convention and banquet centers, and other service establishments.

In the coming years, the Department will continue to develop cooperative relationships, exchange training experiences, and learn from Hotel and Tourism departments of leading institutions such as: the Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Hanoi; the Faculty of Tourism, University of Finance and Marketing; the Faculty of Tourism, Nha Trang University, and others. These collaborations aim to promote the inherent strengths of the Hotel–Restaurant Department within a leading institution specializing in food, culinary arts, restaurant management, and food service training—Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade.
